Hi, Iām Joana.
I am a socially engaged researcher, designer and artist with French and Portuguese roots based in London. My work explores how collective making and design can become tools for connection, empowerment and social change.
Working across participatory art, social design and practice-based research, I create collaborative projects with communities to explore how making together can build confidence, agency and a sense of belonging. My practice is rooted in care, storytelling and the belief that creativity can open spaces for dialogue, solidarity and more inclusive futures.
I hold an MSc in International Management from ESCP Europe, an MA in Pattern and Garment Technology and PhD in Design for Social Change from London College of Fashion, UAL. Before developing my artistic and research practice, I worked across social entrepreneurship, strategy and innovation.
Across research, artworks, workshops and publications, I explore textiles and design as spaces where people, stories and communities come together.
